Man beats commercial bike rider to death over ₦50

Tragedy struck in Ilesa, a commercial city in Osun State, yesterday when a 28-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, Sunday Oyeleye Ojo, was beaten to death by his co-tenant after a sharp argument which ensued between them over the payment of ₦50 for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) electricity bill.
The late Mr Ojo, a father of two children, had on 23rd of August, engaged in a fight with a trader, Godwin Shina, when the latter asked him to pay his share of ₦50 of the monthly PHCN bill, but he claimed to have paid the sum to Mr Shina’s mother.
It was learnt that the refusal of Mr Ojo to pay the ₦50 infuriated Mr Shina who gave him a heavy punch on his chest, which paralysed him immediately.
It was also gathered that while the late Mr Ojo was still lying unconscious on the ground due to the punch he received from Mr Shina, another tenant, identified as Deborah Adejuwon, also gave him a bite on the neck.
The late Mr Ojo was later rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, for treatment and was discharged on the 26th of August.
The deceased’s mother, Aduke Ojo, told our correspondent that “when my son was discharged from the hospital, he complained of severe pain on his back and gulped three tins of milk before he gave up the ghost”.
Consequently, relatives and friends of Mr Ojo, mostly Okada riders, yesterday took to the streets of Ilesa town, chanting and protesting the ugly death of one of their colleagues. The irate Okada riders accused the Igbo people living in the town of killing Mr Ojo and threatened to retaliate by burning their shops.
The protest turned bloody as the irate Okada riders visited the house of the late Mr Ojo at Ibala road, Ilesa, and unleashed terror on Mr Shina’s mother by beating her to a state of coma, alleging that she instigated her son to beat Mr Ojo to death. The Okada riders also inflicted injuries on several innocent Igbo citizens who dominate the commercial activities of the town.
It was total confusion as the Okada riders took to the ‘A’ Division Police Station in the town and ordered the Area Commander, Kayode Tunner, to release the two suspects - Mr Shina and Ms Adejuwon - who were in police custody in order for them to retaliate the death of their late colleague but the police dispersed them and later arrested some of them.
Meanwhile, worried by the development, the Igbo traders in the town have locked their shops for fear of being attacked by the Okada riders.
Mr Tunner, however, assured the Igbo residents that the Police was on top of the situation, urging them to open their shops.

Tee A celebrates 15 years on stage

One of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Nigerian Tunde Adewale, a.k.a. Tee A is rolling out the drums, in celebration of his 15th year 'on the stage'.

Regarded as a super-MC, writer, presenter, comedian and entrepreneur, the University of Lagos graduate has built a career as an international entertainer; working, through the years on private engagements, big-venue concerts and his own solo show in Lagos, London and the US.
And he's build a chain of businesses along the line. Adewale is the founder-CEO of First Class Entertainment, the Owner of TymeOut Lounge in Ikeja, Lagos, the Executive Producer of TymeoutWith Tee A and host of the Live 'N Naked series.
And it all started nearly two decades ago when, as a young man, Tee A found his talent, and developed it through exposure to Bill Cosby materials and invaluable support from comedy grand godfather Ali Baba.
The comedian confirmed to close friends he's 'going all out' to 'thank God, my fans, clients, colleagues and supporters' for a wonderful and amazing 15 years.
We're told a DVD is in the works, as well as comedy concerts that'll hold in Lagos and Abuja.
The concerts, sources say, will be reminiscent of the old Live 'N Naked series, and will feature mostly Tee A materials from the past, present and future.
'It's difficult to believe we've done 15 years already' Tee A tells us in a yet-to-be-published interview. 'It all looks like yesterday. But we must celebrate; we must use this opportunity to set a new agenda for the industry, and also challenge ourselves to move on to the next level...'
He says: 'Yes we're doing a 3-in-1 event. But for now I'll leave you to continue guessing what these three elements are'.

Bare-breast protest at Ukraine trial

KIEV (Reuters) - The Ukrainian women's group, Femen, took its distinctive brand of protest to the trial of ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Tuesday when two activists climbed atop a police wagon outside the court and bared their breasts.
The action by the group, whose activists regularly stage topless public protests to dramatise their causes, surprised scores of police who were keeping an eye on a nearby rally by pro-Tymoshenko supporters.
The pair clambered on to the roof of the prison van parked near the Kiev city centre courtroom, removed their blouses and jeered at police and the country's politicians who, they said, belonged inside the vehicle themselves.
"This vehicle is reserved for bandits ... the check-out is open," they called from on top of the vehicle before police finally climbed up and managed to carry them down.
The protest brought some light relief to the trial of Tymoshenko who is charged with abuse of office over a gas deal signed with Russia in 2009 when she was prime minister. The leadership of President Viktor Yanukovich says the deal saddled Ukraine with too high a price for its gas imports.
Femen regularly stages protests over women's rights and covers a range of causes from campaigning against sex tourism in Ukraine to the treatment of women in parts of the Middle East.
It takes up an anti-establishment position inside Ukraine and has been as critical of Tymoshenko's record as a politician in the past as it has of Yanukovich whose off-colour remarks about women have provided it with pretexts for protests.
Explaining Tuesday's action by Inna Shevchenko, 21, and Oksana Sachko, 23, Femen said it was against "the dirty in-fighting between two criminal gangs being presented to the people as a struggle between good and evil."
Femen activist Alexandra Shevchenko, who did not take part in the protest, said it was intended to remind Yanukovich's Party of the Regions that "when they put the opposition in jail the prison vans are also booked for them."
A spokesman for Kiev city police said the two young women had been detained for "hooliganism." They would either be given a warning or fined, he said.
